BoConcept Glasgow - Scotland

Milngavie Familiy Home

A bright, spacious, contemporary family home in Milngavie. Designed by Caroline Buhagiar from BoConcept Glasgow, the interior spaces flow into one another, providing a flexible environment to relax, socialise and enjoy a vibrant family life. Incorporating bespoke elements and multifunctional pieces, alongside high quality timeless upholstery, the interiors have been designed to evolve, accommodating changes in lifestyle and ensuring their success for years to come.

"It’s a perfect example of what’s possible when a designer is empowered, and the clients feel genuinely heard."

Caroline Buhagiar, Interior Designer at BoConcept Glasgow

Here’s how the design came together

Our brief

  • Nikki and Lisa, a young couple with two teenage boys, contacted in 2023 after purchasing their dream home.

  • NVDC Architects handled the structural extension; the couple sought an interior designer for the finishing and detailing.

  • Initial focus was the open-plan kitchen/dining/living area to create a usable space during renovations.

  • Materials and finishes were chosen for durability and ease of maintenance, reflecting their social, family-oriented lifestyle.

  • The second phase included formal dining and living rooms with darker tones, mood lighting, and a pool-dining table hybrid.

What Makes This Project Special?

  • The couple prioritised functional, purposeful design to avoid creating unused or "dead" space despite the house’s size.

  • When planning setbacks arose, the design approach was adjusted to maintain vibrancy and energy in a more subtle way.

  • Strong client–designer trust allowed for creative freedom, notably in the fireplace design, which started as a humble sketch.

  • The interiors reflect a blend of luxury and lived-in warmth, tailored to the family’s lifestyle and love for entertaining.

  • A collaborative process that balanced professional vision with personal input ensured a meaningful, authentic result.
