Self-care continues to explode, a tendency amplified by the pandemic. In the sphere of interiors, this trend creates a desire for homes that are sanctuaries, attuned to consumers’ emotional and functional needs. BoConcept can attest to this, seeing a rise in organic forms, plush fabrics and calming hues; the latter satisfied by the brand’s range of surfaces and over a 120 fabrics and leathers. The right statement living chair can perfectly satisfy this demand offering a personal and stylish retreat.
Porto is a contemporary take on the classic mid-century living chair. The look is characterised by its high enveloping back, prominent headrest and refined stitch details. Schrofer softened the silhouette with organic curves, while adding ample visual comfort through generous cushion forms and subtle upholstery wrinkles. Porto’s cold-cure moulded foam delivers all-day comfort and a uniform look that will maintain its shape year after year.
Porto can be ordered with optional recline function. The mechanism allows the user to adjust the load needed to tilt and to lock the backrest in any position along its arc. Porto is available in two base colours, a choice also used on handles for optional tilt. Porto can be upholstered in any of the brand’s full range of fabrics and leathers. For extra comfort, the design can be finished with matching footstool.
Dimensions: (chair) H108/42xW78xD87cm; (footstool) H43xW63xD43cm

Frans Schrofer was born in 1956 in Voorburg, The Netherlands and is part of three generations of celebrated creativity. His parents, Hannie Bal and Jan Schrofer, were renowned painters. Frans is nephew to furniture pioneer and founder of The Circle, Jan Schrofer. His family also includes famed architects, graphic designers and an ex-director of the Rijks Academy.
Frans’ career has included auto and electro mechanics, mechanical engineering, consumer packaging and teaching at The Hague’s Royal Academy of Art. He is of course best known for his award-winning furniture design. For BoConcept, Frans penned the Parma sofa and, most recently, the popular Athena recliner chair.
“My overall guiding principle is to create tools for living. A language of form without words. I believe it is my responsibility as a designer to create long lifecycle products with a balanced use of materials, so the carbon footprint is minimal. Beauty, comfort, and quality is optima forma. It is important for me that my designs are endeared, loved, and used for coming generations,” says Frans Schrofer
