He’s part of a creative family that includes celebrated authors, generations of furniture makers and architects. Although now living in Jutland with his family, ARDE’s second office in the capital maintains the connection to his Copenhagen: the vibrant, architectural city he once called home.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK?

A big inspiration is art – particularly modern art – and innovative architecture. I’m also energised by fashion, music, food, new materials and tech. Copenhagen has all this and more. You always discover something new.

WHAT QUALITIES TYPICALLY CHARACTERISE AN ARDE DESIGN?

An artistic approach to design combined with well-considered solutions that ensure a great user experience. Furthermore, a big wish to push forward technical and sustainable evolution.

YOUR WORK TAKES YOU TO MANY CITIES AROUND THE GLOBE. WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT COPENHAGEN?

The food scene is amazing and it seems like there is an even increasing focus on plant-based food, which makes it even more interesting and something that many around the world should find inspirational. Copenhagen also attracts a lot of creatives, and an endless number of underground events. Architecturally, it’s a city in development. There’s a nice juxtaposition of very old housing and completely new areas popping up, with fresh and innovative architecture.

HOW HAS BEING A DANE IN DENMARK AFFECTED YOUR WORK AND CAREER?

Growing up, living and studying in Denmark has given me a very rational and humane approach to design. Design isn’t solely about styling. To deliver great design, is to create products that many people find useful.

YOU’RE A TRAINED ARCHITECT. WHICH CPH BUILDING DO YOU MOST ADMIRE AND WHY?

That would be Blox, because of its innovative sustainable approach. The building is made to last for at least 200 years and it’s built as a high insulated low-energy house; equipped with solar cells, remote cooling system and intelligent installation control. Innovations that architects and designers should be thinking about much more.

YOU’RE A BIG MODERN ART ENTHUSIAST. WHICH ARTISTS HAVE RECENTLY CAPTURED YOUR IMAGINATION?

Olafur Eliasson, Richard Colman, Jean Pierre Roy, Mu Pan, Christian Lemmertz, Aaron Johnson, John Koerner, to mention just a few.

IF YOU WEREN’T A DESIGNER OR ARCHITECT, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I don’t think I’ve ever really considered anything else.
